ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My writing abilities were realized in the eighth grade when I forgot to complete a Black History project which was 70% of my history grade. I had to think of something fast! A poem was the only thing on the approved list that I could complete before my 3rd period History class. My typing class was 2nd period and it gave me an hour to produce an original poem. My first poem, titled, "We The People" was birthed through this trial. It was published after being entered into a poetry contest. It became the first of many. Throughout the years, my sister, Kalen, would tell me that I needed to write a book. She pushed me to envision what God had in store for me.
Completing Under the Radar has to-date been one of my most rewarding accomplishments. Although I never aspired to write a book, it all derived from my seeing a movie that depicted African American men, in my opinion, in a negative light. I came out feeling such a loss for African American men. I decided to write a work in response to feeling like strong, ethical black men were not being properly represented in the entertainment industry, so instead of questioning others about their works, God put on my heart to take action and thus, Under the Radar was created. I'm often asked how did I form the characters. In all honesty, they formed themselves....TO GOD, I GIVE ALL OF THE GLORY! There is so much more to come...thank you for your continued support!
I attended Hobby Elementary and transferred to Will Rogers Elementary in 3rd grade. Attended Sidney Lanier Middle School and started at the High School for Engineering Professions, but transferred to Willowridge High School and graduated in 1984. I then went to University of Houston Downtown, transferred to Southwest Texas State University for a couple of years, and transferred back to University of Houston Downtown. I'm still in search of that piece of paper (BA) to tell me, I'z smart! Lol!
I am a loving mother of too many to name. My biological children, my foster children, and my step-children are all the same in my eyes. I want to take a moment to tell them that they inspire me to reach for greatness. They are the wind beneath my wings.
To my kids - Always be the royalty that you were born to be, and always, always know your worth. You are beautiful on the inside and out, and I love you to the moon and back.
